Education officials in Machakos have urged strict adherence to Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) regulations as the 2025 KCSE and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) examinations officially began across the country on Monday.

Speaking during the opening of the KNEC examination container at the Machakos Sub-County offices, Eastern Region Deputy Director of Education, Samwel Boto, reminded centre managers and all examination personnel of their responsibility to uphold integrity and ensure the credibility of the national tests.

“These exams must be conducted with the utmost professionalism,” Mr. Boto said. “All involved personnel must strictly follow KNEC guidelines to maintain fairness and transparency throughout the process.”

He urged exam supervisors, invigilators, security officers, and other officials deployed in the exercise to ensure that all laid-down procedures were adhered to without compromise.

Boto was accompanied by Machakos Deputy County Commissioner Machira Gathungu, Sub-County Director of Education Titus Mbatha, Sub-County Administration Police Commander Adhi Ali, OCPD Titus Muturi, the County TSC Director, among other senior education and security officers.

Machakos County has registered 34,586 candidates for this year’s KCSE examinations, including 17,983 girls and 16,603 boys, spread across 449 examination centres in the county’s 9 sub-counties. Additionally, 207 private candidates are sitting for the exam—114 males and 93 females.

For the KJSEA, the county has 34,810 registered candidates, with 17,712 boys and 17,098 girls expected to sit for the assessments.
