The Jubilee Party has made a major political statement by appointing former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its Deputy Party Leader and officially endorsing him as the party’s 2027 presidential flag bearer.

The announcement was made on Thursday during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by Party Leader H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta at the party headquarters in Nairobi. The high-level meeting focused on leadership restructuring and redefining Jubilee’s strategic direction ahead of the next general elections.

In a statement released after the meeting, the NEC revealed that Dr. Matiang’i’s elevation marks the beginning of an ambitious plan to revitalize the party and reclaim its place in national politics.

“The NEC has officially received and unanimously accepted the formal application of Dr. Fred Matiang’i to be the Jubilee Party’s Presidential Candidate,” read part of the communiqué.

Dr. Matiang’i, who previously served in key government portfolios including Education and Interior, will now serve as both Deputy Party Leader and Jubilee’s official representative within the United Opposition Movement — a coalition of like-minded political outfits seeking to provide a united alternative to the current administration.

The NEC also announced the appointment of Mr. Kagwe Gichohi as Executive Director, Hon. Ekomwa James Lomenen as Senate Whip, and Hon. Samwel Arama as National Assembly Party Whip.

In a show of unity and renewal, the committee approved a nationwide membership registration and mobilization drive aimed at rebuilding the party’s grassroots networks and strengthening its public image.

The meeting began on a somber note, with the NEC extending heartfelt condolences to the family of Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, following his recent passing.

“The Jubilee Party stands in solidarity with the Odinga family and the nation during this difficult moment of loss,” the statement said.

As Jubilee positions itself for a political comeback, the endorsement of Dr. Matiang’i — a figure widely viewed as disciplined and reform-minded — signals the party’s intent to rally under a candidate capable of restoring its influence and reenergizing its support base across the country.

The Jubilee Party affirmed that it remains committed to “democratic renewal, institutional strengthening, and transformative governance” as it joins hands with partners in the United Opposition to shape Kenya’s future.
