Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has offered to broker talks between Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and President William Ruto, saying such engagement would benefit both the veteran politician and his supporters.
Speaking in an interview with one of the Local TV stations, Mutuse said he is ready to personally mediate a political dialogue between the two leaders, citing his ability to speak candidly with both President Ruto and Kalonzo Musyoka.
“I can offer to be his negotiator. I can talk to President Ruto, and I can also talk to Kalonzo because I wish everything good for him,” Mutuse said. “We even come from the same small clan, and I’ve told some of our elders that if Kalonzo so wishes, I can mediate between him and the President.”
Mutuse challenged the Wiper leader to be bold and make strategic political decisions that may seem unpopular now but could prove right in the long run. He urged Kalonzo to take leadership from the front, insisting that courage and foresight were necessary in shaping his political destiny.
“Kalonzo, wherever you are, you must be brave and lead from the front. Leadership demands making decisions that may appear unpopular today, but years later, people will say this was the right thing to do,” he said.
The Kibwezi West MP reminded Kalonzo that in the 2022 General Election, he was not a presidential candidate, but rather a supporter of the then–Azimio la Umoja flagbearer, Raila Odinga, in an arrangement that included President Ruto.
“The presidential candidate you campaigned for was in an arrangement with the current president. You were not even the deputy president in that setup,” Mutuse argued. “If Raila had won, the highest Kalonzo would have become was a cabinet secretary — maybe a decorated one, but still just a cabinet secretary.”
Mutuse said it was time for Kalonzo to think about his supporters and the wider community that looks up to him, urging him to embrace dialogue and structured cooperation with the current administration.
“For the progress and benefit of your people, there’s every need to work with the government of the day. You need to have a structured engagement with President Ruto so that our people can be part of the progress,” he said.
Mutuse further questioned Kalonzo’s current political alliances, saying it would be poor judgment to shun dialogue with a sitting president who commands broad national support, only to follow “someone who is impeached.”
“If you’re being asked to work with a sitting president who has support across the country and you choose to follow someone impeached, then your sense of judgment must be very poor,” he said.
The Kibwezi West legislator cautioned that many politicians who cheer Kalonzo from the sidelines already hold powerful positions and are benefiting from the system, while the Wiper leader continues to languish outside government.
“Those rallying him with lies are governors, MPs, and senators enjoying big convoys and salaries. They’re in office, earning and enjoying benefits, but he remains a party leader with nothing tangible,” he said.
Mutuse concluded by saying that if Kalonzo harbors ambitions of ever becoming president, his surest route lies in working with President Ruto.
“If Kalonzo ever dreams of being president, his route to the presidency is through working with William Ruto. The political transfer window is open — and my door is open too, should he wish me to mediate,” Mutuse added.
