A 21-year-old man suspected of robbing a security guard at gunpoint in Kisumu has been arrested following a swift operation by law enforcement officers.
The suspect, identified as Kelvin Oduor, alias Kevoo, was cornered on Monday night after Kisumu Sub-County Law Enforcement Officers on patrol heard gunshots and rushed to the scene.
According to police reports, Oduor had moments earlier attacked a security guard, robbing him of his mobile phone and rubber shoes before fleeing the scene. The officers immediately launched a manhunt that culminated in a dramatic arrest.
In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the suspect hid inside a water storage drum on the rooftop of the Patel Sarmaji Building, but officers discovered his hideout and arrested him on the spot.
An AK-47 rifle loaded with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition was recovered from his possession.
The suspect was escorted to Kisumu Central Police Station, where he is being processed pending arraignment in court.
Police have lauded the swift response by the patrol team, saying it averted potential danger and ensured a dangerous suspect was taken off the streets.
