EarlyBird Primary Schools today hosted its annual Fun Day at its main Kathome campus, bringing together learners from all its branches for a day of activity, laughter, and talent discovery.
According to the School Head Teacher Daisy Geradine, the annual event is anchored on the philosophy that education must balance academics with play for children to thrive.
“We believe in the English saying that work without play makes Jack a dull boy. Our learners have been in class since January, so this day is always very special for them,” she said.
The school’s vision goes beyond academics. With the motto The Right Start at the primary level and Nurturing Talent at the junior level, Early Bird School uses Fun Day to put this mission into practice.
Learners engage in a wide range of age-appropriate activities, from bouncing castles, trampolines, go-carts, merry-go-rounds, and swimming, to other exciting games introduced every year.
But the purpose of Fun Day stretches deeper than fun. It is about raising well-rounded children. Geradine emphasized that the event plays a key role in helping children grow not only physically strong but also mentally healthy.
“Fitness is not just about the body. We know for a person to be said to be fit, he or she must be physically, mentally, and socially fit,” she explained.
Through playful interactions, learners get the chance to socialize, bond with peers from other campuses, and develop crucial social-emotional skills. The school views these interactions as vital in shaping learners who are confident, empathetic, and resilient.
The event also aligns with the Competency-Based Education (CBE), which emphasizes nurturing learners’ talents and abilities. By observing children in arts, sports, and creative activities, teachers and mentors can identify pathways for future growth and even potential careers.
“Fun Day allows us to see where each learner’s passion lies—whether in sports, arts, or sciences. It’s about discovering and nurturing abilities while keeping children happy, healthy, and socially connected,” Geradine noted.
As the bouncing castles deflated and the last go-cart slowed to a halt, one thing was clear: Early Bird School’s Fun Day is more than a day of games—it is an investment in shaping physically fit, mentally healthy, and socially balanced children who are prepared for life.
