Makueni County Woman Representative Rose Museo has called for greater recognition and support for boda boda operators, terming them a vital pillar of the local economy and community life.

Speaking when she hosted members of MA Wote Boda Boda Sacco Limited at her NGAAF offices in Wote, Museo commended the riders for their growing sense of organization, noting that their stage committees have transformed the sector’s image.

“For a long time, boda boda riders have been viewed as disorganized, but you are slowly changing this narrative. In fact, you now appear more organized than those who label you otherwise,” she remarked.

Museo, who presented a Ksh 300,000 grant from the NGAAF kitty to the Sacco, challenged the riders to use the funds prudently to strengthen their structures.

“What we are giving you today may not be enough, but we ask that you put it into good use so that next time you can apply for more,” she urged.

She further appealed to security agencies to ensure the safety of riders, stressing that previous conflicts between operators and motorists were partly a result of riders feeling unrecognized.

“We have come to appreciate how essential this sector is. Boda bodas take women to hospital during labor, ferry our children to school, and help us beat traffic when in a hurry. They deserve respect,” she said.

Looking ahead, Museo revealed her vision of seeing a bus branded Makueni Boda Boda as part of her legacy after politics.

She also called on the county government to establish a desk dedicated to boda boda affairs to support riders in legal, accident, and insurance matters.

The meeting underscored growing calls for formal structures to better integrate the boda boda sector into county development while safeguarding the welfare of thousands of riders who serve as a lifeline to many households.
