Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two women in Nairobi after they were found in possession of counterfeit foreign currency worth millions of shillings.
The suspects, identified as Ifrah Ali Jeyte and Qamar Salat Abdi, were apprehended during a sting operation in Upper Hill following intelligence leads.
According to the DCI, a swift search on the women uncovered bundles of 100 US dollar notes concealed inside a handbag. Upon transfer to the DCI Nairobi Area Headquarters, detectives counted the seized notes and established that the fake cash amounted to USD 560,000 (approximately Ksh 70 million).
The arrest exposes what investigators believe to be part of a larger counterfeit currency syndicate operating in the city. The two women are currently in custody as detectives complete processing ahead of their arraignment.
Authorities have urged members of the public and financial institutions to remain vigilant, warning that counterfeit operations continue to pose a serious threat to the economy.
