A Revenue Collection Assistant at Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd has been arraigned for allegedly forging her academic qualifications to fraudulently secure public employment.
Ms. Teresia Chepkemoi Chepkwony was on Wednesday charged before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court after investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) revealed she used a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to land the job.
According to EACC, the forged document, purportedly issued by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), enabled her to secure employment at the water utility, where she went on to earn salaries and benefits totaling Ksh7.59 million.
Following the investigations, the case was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which approved four charges against her. They include fraudulent acquisition of public property, deceiving a principal, forgery, and uttering a false document.
Ms. Chepkwony was processed at the Integrity Centre Police Station before being arraigned in court, where she denied the charges. The court released her on a cash bail of Ksh100,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh500,000.
EACC has reaffirmed its resolve to clamp down on fraud and protect integrity within the public service sector, warning that individuals who use fake academic papers to secure government jobs will face the law.
