Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has lauded the collective efforts of various stakeholders in improving education facilities across the country, saying such partnerships are critical to ensuring that all learners have access to quality and affordable education.

Speaking on Friday during the commissioning of a new 400-bed dormitory at The Kitondo School in Kisau, Mbooni East Sub-County, Makueni County, Murkomen praised the role played by communities, the church, development partners, and individuals in complementing government efforts.

“The development of education infrastructure in Kenya has been the combined effort of the government, the church, development partners, communities, and individuals. As the government accelerates its efforts to ensure all learners can access quality and affordable education, we salute the contributions of other stakeholders in attaining this goal,” he said.

The newly commissioned dormitory, constructed through the collaborative efforts of the Board of Management and the local community, is expected to ease congestion and improve living conditions for students.

Murkomen also toured ongoing infrastructure projects at the school and pledged to spearhead resource mobilization for the construction of a multipurpose hall.

“My friends and I will mobilize resources to construct a multipurpose hall in this school, which is one of the best-performing institutions in Makueni County,” he added.

The event was attended by several high-profile leaders, including Senator Hillary Sigei, Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Teresia Mbaika, Kenya Railways Corporation Managing Director Philip Mainga—who also serves as the school’s Board Chair—Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Director Damaris Maweu, and the school’s Chief Principal Richard Mokaya.

Murkomen’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to working hand in hand with other stakeholders to improve education facilities and create conducive learning environments across the country.
