Two passengers lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident involving a 14-seater matatu and a trailer at Malili, along the Nairobi–Mombasa highway, early this morning.
The accident occurred at around 6:00 am when the matatu, which was travelling from Nairobi towards Mombasa, rammed into the rear of a trailer, according to Mukaa Deputy County Commissioner Buxton Mayambi. The impact killed two passengers on the spot.
Approximately ten other passengers were injured and rushed to Kilungu and Sultan Sub-County hospitals for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the Machakos Hospital mortuary, while the wreckage of the two vehicles was towed to Salama Police Station for further investigation.
Deputy County Commissioner Mayambi has cautioned motorists against speeding, especially during the ongoing rainy season, warning that wet and slippery roads pose a significant risk to road users.
