Mavoko MP Patrick Makau and Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka have appealed to the clergy to mediate and help restore peace between the feuding factions of the Machakos County Assembly.
Their call comes in the wake of Speaker Ann Kiusya’s decision to suspend all plenary and committee sittings on April 8, 2025, citing security concerns for herself and members of the Assembly.
The move followed a violent physical altercation on the Assembly floor, involving two rival groups of MCAs—one pushing for the Speaker's impeachment and another opposing it.
In a letter addressed to the MCAs and the public, the Speaker announced the indefinite suspension of all Assembly activities until safety for all stakeholders, including Assembly staff, could be guaranteed. She also froze all official domestic and international travel for members.
Speaking over the weekend during the burial of Philomena Mueni, mother to Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, Makau and Musyoka warned that the prolonged paralysis of the County Assembly was adversely affecting development efforts in Machakos.
Makau urged Machakos Catholic Bishop Norman King’oo to personally intervene by engaging Governor Wavinya Ndeti and urging her to facilitate the Assembly’s resumption.
“Our Bishop is the right remedy for our Governor. Bishop King’oo is a man of truth, and if he picks up the phone today to call the Governor, the Assembly will be back in session instantly,” Makau said.
He emphasized the need for dialogue among MCAs to resolve their disputes and commended them for their oversight role, encouraging them to pursue peace.
“There’s no conflict that can’t be solved through dialogue. I applaud the MCAs for their oversight work, but I urge them to choose peace,” he added.
Musyoka echoed Makau’s sentiments, taking a swipe at Governor Wavinya Ndeti’s administration, which he claimed was underperforming.
“Anyone saying all is well in Machakos needs new eyeglasses,” he remarked, insisting that development in wards shouldn’t be contingent on political allegiance to the Governor.
He further criticized the Governor for blaming the national government over drug supply delays, urging her to first demonstrate what the county is doing with its own resources to address the health crisis.
Musyoka also lauded Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu for speaking out against the challenges affecting the county, calling for greater accountability from the county leadership.
