The government has announced the formation of a special multi-agency taskforce to tackle the growing number of fraudulent overseas job recruitment schemes targeting unsuspecting Kenyans.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua, who convened a high-level meeting with key government institutions on Tuesday, said the taskforce would investigate and prosecute individuals and agencies defrauding Kenyans in the name of foreign job opportunities.

The move follows an alarming rise in cases where unlicensed agents have conned job seekers out of their savings under false promises of employment abroad.

The newly formed taskforce will include the Ministry of Labour, the Office of the Attorney General, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and other key state agencies. It will operate from a centralized One-Stop Centre located at the NSSF Building, 7th Floor, starting Thursday, July 17, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM daily.

Dr. Mutua emphasized that the taskforce would fast-track investigations, harmonize case handling, and ensure swift prosecution of culprits. He further warned that all individuals behind such scams—including company directors and brokers—will be held personally accountable.

The CS also called on victims of such fraud to come forward and file official complaints, urging them to bring all relevant documents such as proof of payment and communication records.

At the same time, discussions are ongoing with the Judiciary to explore ways of expediting labour fraud cases to ensure faster access to justice.

Dr. Mutua reassured the public of the government's commitment to safeguarding the dignity of Kenyan workers and protecting the integrity of the country’s labour migration programmes.
