Former President Uhuru Kenyatta, President William Ruto, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other leaders have sent messages of condolence to PLP leader Martha Karua following the death of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua.

President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other political leaders have joined People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua in mourning the death of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua.
Mwalimu Karua died on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at his home in Kirinyaga. Martha Karua announced his death after visiting him earlier that day alongside her siblings. The family spent time with him and sang his favourite gospel hymn, unaware it would be their final moments together.
Karua described her father as a principled teacher, loving father and one of her strongest supporters throughout her life. She said he believed in her from her school days through her legal career and public service, leaving behind values that shaped her life.
President Ruto described the late Mwalimu Karua as a dedicated teacher who devoted his life to education and service, saying he touched generations through his work. He extended his thoughts and prayers to the Karua family during the difficult period.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta also condoled with the family, describing Mwalimu Karua’s life as one defined by principled leadership, dedication to education, strong character and deep love for his family.
Kalonzo Musyoka offered his condolences to Martha, her siblings and the wider Karua family. He described Martha as an “Iron Lady” and urged her to draw strength from her father’s life, values and the memories they shared.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Chief Justice David Maraga, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i were also among leaders who sent messages of condolence. They remembered Mwalimu Karua as a teacher, father and mentor whose influence extended through his children and those he taught.
The messages have brought together leaders from across the political divide in remembering Mwalimu Jackson Karua and offering support to his family. Funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family.
