Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate alleged misuse of funds allocated to healthcare services in Makueni County.
Speaking in Kikumini, Makueni Constituency, Mutuse raised concerns over the utilisation of public resources meant for medicines and other essential healthcare services, alleging that some of the funds could be diverted to political activities.
The legislator further claimed that money intended for healthcare was allegedly being used to influence some Members of the County Assembly, and urged EACC to investigate the allegations and establish whether public resources had been misused.
“Nataka kuomba EACC iingie Kaunti ya Makueni ndio pesa ya dawa iwache kutumika kwa kampeni. Tumechunguza na tuko na habari kwamba pesa ya SHA ikitumwa katika dispensaries na health centers za Makueni, those incharge of the facilities are being forced to withdraw the money in Cash and the money is being given to the MCAs every Friday for campaigns,” Mutuse said.
Mutuse insisted that funds allocated to the health sector should remain within the sector and be used strictly for their intended purpose to improve healthcare services for residents.
He said Makueni residents deserve reliable access to medicines and quality healthcare, rather than having resources meant to address their medical needs allegedly redirected to political activities.
“Pesa ya dawa ikae hospitalini,” he added, calling on the anti-corruption agency to examine the allegations and take appropriate action if any wrongdoing is established.
The MP urged relevant authorities to ensure accountability and transparency in the utilisation of public funds.
