Machakos Governor has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to improving water access, healthcare delivery and rural infrastructure during a development tour of Mitaboni Ward.
The Governor inspected and launched several county projects aimed at improving livelihoods, expanding access to essential services and opening up the rural economy.
Among the projects is the Kwa Kathuku Dam in Miumbuni, which has a capacity of 45 million litres and currently serves approximately 700 residents.
Wavinya said an additional water draw-off point would be established on the opposite side of the dam to further improve access for surrounding communities.
The ward is also benefiting from borehole projects in Kingongoi, where drilling is ongoing, Kwa Katua, where rehabilitation is underway, and Ngiini, where rehabilitation has already been completed.
“These investments are bringing water closer to households, supporting horticulture and livestock, improving sanitation and contributing to better health and livelihoods,” she said.
The Governor also inspected expansion works at Mitaboni Level 3 Health Centre, including the construction of a new X-ray and ultrasound unit, a main theatre and male and female wards.
She said the expanded facility would bring essential diagnostic and surgical services closer to residents, increase inpatient capacity and reduce unnecessary referrals to other hospitals.
Mitaboni Level 3 Health Centre serves an estimated 30,000 residents and attended to more than 45,000 patients last year, according to the Governor.
Wavinya further inspected the ongoing works on the four-kilometre Syauni–King’ong’oi Road, which is expected to connect Thinu to Mitaboni and improve access to markets for farmers.
The road will facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, including coffee, avocadoes, macadamia nuts and bananas, while easing the movement of people and goods.
“Opening up the rural economy remains a key priority of my administration,” Wavinya said, adding that improved road connectivity would strengthen market linkages and support agriculture as a source of livelihoods and economic growth.
