Mulwa Unveils Health Legacy in Bid for Makueni Senate Seat, Urges Voters to Change Leadership

UDA senatorial aspirant for Makueni County Dr Andrew Mulwa who is also the current head of the National AIDS and STIs Control Program (NASCOP) has sought to rally voters behind his candidature by highlighting his contributions to the health sector and his record of service to the people of Kenya and Makueni.

Mulwa, who served in the department of Health during the administration of former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, said he played a central role in developing the treatment programme associated with the Kivutha Card, which enabled numerous residents to access medical services in hospitals across the county.

Speaking during a women’s economic empowerment event at Matiliku in Makueni Constituency on Monday, September 14, 2026, Mulwa said his priority at the time was to improve access to healthcare and remove barriers that prevented residents from obtaining essential medical services.

He also cited reforms he said he spearheaded in the health sector, including improvements in hospital operations and the upgrading of Matiliku Hospital from Level 3 to Level 4.

According to Mulwa, he was further involved in the construction, expansion and transformation of several health facilities across Makueni, achievements he said demonstrated his capacity to deliver tangible results in public service.

The senatorial aspirant also congratulated President William Ruto for giving him an opportunity to continue serving in the national administration, acknowledging that he had not initially supported the President politically.

Mulwa urged Makueni residents to back Ruto’s bid for a second term, arguing that maintaining a strong working relationship with the national government would create more opportunities for development in the county.

He called for a change of leadership in the 2027 General Election, asking voters to assess candidates based on their record of service, experience and ability to deliver.

Mulwa said his experience in healthcare and his contribution to the county’s development should guide residents as they choose their next senator.
