Makueni Senatorial aspirant Dr Andrew Mulwa has condemned the violence witnessed during a peaceful procession by Clinical Officers in Makueni County, calling for an urgent and independent investigation into the incident.
In a statement, Mulwa expressed regret over the confrontation and said every Kenyan has a constitutional right to peacefully assemble, demonstrate and present grievances without fear of intimidation or violence.
He said disagreements arising from political, administrative or labour-related issues should be addressed through dialogue and lawful processes rather than violence.
“No disagreement, whether political, administrative or labour-related, should ever be answered with violence, intimidation or thuggery,” Mulwa said.
The aspiring senator called on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish the identities of those who planned, facilitated or participated in the alleged attack.
Mulwa further urged authorities to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He warned against what he described as a growing culture of “goonism, hooliganism and the use of violence” to silence people expressing legitimate grievances.
According to Mulwa, Makueni should remain a county where political, labour and social differences are resolved through dialogue, mutual respect and adherence to the rule of law.
He also wished the Clinical Officers who sustained injuries during the incident a quick and full recovery.
“Violence has no place in our county. Makueni deserves better,” he said.
Mulwa is among those positioning themselves to contest the Makueni Senate seat in the 2027 General Election.
