The Kamba community living in Kilifi County has officially formed an umbrella body aimed at strengthening their voice and influence in the county’s political and development affairs.

During a well-attended meeting that brought together representatives from all seven sub-counties, the group—known as Mbai ya Mbaitu—vowed to work collaboratively with the county’s elected leadership to secure social, economic, and political benefits for its members.

Andrew Muthoka, the chairperson of the organization, emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation with the current administration led by Governor Gideon Mung’aro. He lauded the governor for initiating impactful development programs, including a scholarship scheme that fully supports students admitted to national secondary schools, with parents only required to provide transport and uniforms.

“We are committed to working with the current leadership to ensure development reaches our people. The community is united, and for those few individuals moving around undermining elected leaders, their time is up,” Muthoka declared.

The community also took time to express condolences to Governor Mung’aro following the passing of his father, the late former Senior Chief Gideon Baya Mung’aro. Speaking on behalf of the group, Pastor Catherine assured the governor of the community’s unwavering support.

“We stand with Mung’aro during this time of mourning. He should know that he has the full support of the Kamba community in Kilifi, not only now but throughout his political journey,” she said.

Political advisor Alex Kiminza highlighted the need for unity and civic engagement, urging community members to take proactive steps toward political inclusion.

“We will be holding regular meetings to strengthen our unity and political voice. I urge all members of our community to register as voters so that when elections come, we are recognized and counted,” Kiminza said.

The newly formed umbrella body is expected to play a key role in mobilizing the Kamba community in Kilifi, ensuring their participation in governance and equitable access to development opportunities
