The Wiper Party has intensified efforts to strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election after dispatching a high-powered delegation to Kilifi County to persuade Kenya Roads Board Chairperson and former Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa to support party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's presidential bid.
The delegation, led by Wundanyi Member of Parliament Danston Mwashako and Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, met Jumwa during a church service at Ebenezer Church in the Kisumu Ndogo area of Malindi Town. Other Wiper leaders accompanied the team.
The leaders described Kalonzo as the most suitable candidate to lead a united opposition coalition against President William Ruto in the 2027 polls. They said Jumwa's political experience and influence would be instrumental in strengthening the opposition following her recent exit from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking during the service, Mwashako said he had been traversing the country with the Linda Mwananchi movement and had witnessed growing public support for Kalonzo's presidential ambitions.
He disclosed that the delegation was also scheduled to hold further consultations with Jumwa at her Kakuyuni home, expressing confidence that her support would help build a formidable opposition alliance capable of unseating President Ruto after one term in office.
Senator Wambua said the opposition was rallying behind Kalonzo as its preferred presidential flag bearer and that Jumwa's decision to leave UDA presented an opportunity to strengthen the coalition.
He argued that Jumwa's experience within the Kenya Kwanza administration and her subsequent fallout with the ruling party had given her valuable insights that could help shape the opposition's strategy ahead of the elections.
Addressing the congregation, Jumwa reaffirmed that her decision to quit UDA was final, saying there was "no turning back." She revealed that several political delegations, including the Wiper team, had visited her home seeking political consultations.
The former Cabinet Secretary said she would soon announce her next political move after concluding consultations with various political parties.
Jumwa also defended her bid for the Kilifi governorship, saying she was seeking to transform the county's leadership, which she claimed had failed to meet the expectations of residents.
