Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has launched a scathing attack on the ongoing women empowerment programs being rolled out across the country, terming them a political ploy and a wasteful drain on public resources.

Speaking at a public event, Mwangangi likened the initiative to the infamous Youth for KANU '92 (YK'92) movement, warning that the extravagant spending could cripple the country's economy.

“These exercises are not genuine. They are a political manipulation tool designed to sway public opinion using taxpayers' money. If we’re not careful, we may witness an economic downfall similar to what YK’92 caused in the 1990s,” he warned.

The Deputy Governor urged President William Ruto to intervene and halt what he described as "unwarranted wastage of public resources," insisting that any disbursement of public funds must follow due process and be anchored in policy.

Mwangangi also directed sharp criticism at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, accusing him of making futile political overtures toward Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

“With all due respect, let me advise the senior professor of law to keep his hands off Kalonzo. The game he’s playing is futile and won’t work,” he said.

He further challenged Kindiki: “If you miss Kalonzo that much, you should consider ditching your current team and joining him.”

Mwangangi’s remarks come amid heightened political activity as the 2027 succession race begins to take shape
