More than 4,000 residents of Emali/Mulala Ward in Makueni County are set to benefit from improved access to clean and safe water following the commissioning of the Yandia Water Project by Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili.
The project, implemented under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme, will deliver water through seven strategically located water points in Kwa Soo, Kwa Mbindo, Kwa Mutie, Kanyonyoo, Kwa Mulandi, Kativani and Muselele villages, bringing lasting relief to communities that have struggled with water scarcity for years.
Beyond improving access to water, the initiative promotes climate-smart agriculture by supporting households to establish conical and vertical kitchen gardens. The programme is expected to boost food production, improve household nutrition and enhance resilience to the effects of climate change.
County officials say the project will also help reduce long-standing conflicts over limited water resources while advancing Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr.'s Last Mile Water Connectivity agenda, which aims to ensure every household in Makueni has access to reliable and safe water.
The Yandia Water Project is among the county government's ongoing efforts to strengthen climate resilience and improve the livelihoods of residents through sustainable development initiatives.
