Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Teresia Mbaika, has urged residents of Kaiti Constituency to elect leaders aligned with the Kenya Kwanza administration in the next General Election, arguing that such a move would accelerate development in the region.

Speaking during a women empowerment programme in Kyambeke, Ilima Ward, Kaiti Constituency, Mbaika said the region had lagged behind because most of its elected Members of Parliament had chosen to remain in the opposition instead of working with the national government.

She argued that while Members of Parliament have limited resources—largely confined to bursary allocations—they can achieve far more for their constituents by maintaining a close working relationship with the government of the day.

"The MP seat is limited in what it can do. A Member of Parliament can only afford to give bursaries, but meaningful development comes when the elected leader works closely with the government," she said.

Mbaika, who has declared her interest in the Kaiti parliamentary seat, said she would only seek election under the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), maintaining that MPs elected on the ruling party ticket are better positioned to lobby for development projects and employment opportunities for local residents.

She further criticized the incumbent Kaiti MP, Joshua Kimilu, accusing him of doing little for the constituency because of his persistent criticism of the current administration.

The Principal Secretary also rallied residents to support President William Ruto for a second term, saying his administration had continued to roll out empowerment programmes targeting women, boda boda operators and other groups across the country.

She told the residents that President Ruto had consistently directed government officials to take empowerment funds to women and youth to help them grow their businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Mbaika appealed to the electorate to reciprocate the President's support by backing his re-election bid, noting that he had also entrusted her with a senior government position despite her being “a young woman from Kaiti.”

She said re-electing President Ruto would ensure the continuation of key development projects, including the construction of roads, markets, water infrastructure and other public amenities, adding that the Kenya Kwanza administration deserved a second term to complete its development agenda.

The empowerment event brought together women from across Ilima Ward, with leaders urging residents to support government programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities in the constituency.
