Teachers across the country will begin earning higher salaries from July after the government allocated KSh8.4 billion to enhance their pay, Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chairperson Jamleck Muturi has announced.
Muturi said the salary adjustment reflects the government's commitment to improving teachers' welfare and recognizing their vital role in the education sector.
The TSC will also advertise the promotion of more than 30,000 teachers in the coming weeks after receiving KSh2 billion from the National Treasury. The promotions will target teachers in job groups C2 to D5, covering grades C2, C3, D1, D2, D3, D4 and D5.
In addition, the commission has secured funding to employ 20,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers on permanent and pensionable terms, a move expected to strengthen staffing in public schools and support the effective implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Muturi said the latest measures underscore the government's commitment to improving teachers' welfare, enhancing career progression, and addressing staffing needs in the country's education sector.
