Machakos University has successfully hosted the 7th International Conference, bringing together scholars, researchers, policymakers, industry experts and innovators from across the world to deliberate on emerging technological trends and sustainable development.
The two-day conference was held under the theme, "Leveraging on the Fifth Industrial Revolution in Research and Technology for Sustainable Development." The event provided a platform for participants to share knowledge, showcase research findings and discuss emerging issues shaping societies in the modern world.
Speaking to the media after the conference, Machakos University Vice Chancellor Prof. Joyce Agalo said the event attracted participants from Kenya, the United States of America, Tanzania, Nigeria and Uganda, demonstrating the growing international recognition of the institution's research agenda.
Prof. Agalo noted that the conference achieved its objectives through the presentation of research papers from various disciplines, adding that the findings generated during the conference would be disseminated to enhance knowledge sharing and contribute to societal development.
“We have achieved our target as scholars from different countries presented research papers in various fields. The knowledge generated will be shared widely to benefit society and inform future innovations,” she said.
The Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, Prof. Mugendi M’rithaa, described the conference as highly successful and well attended. He challenged scholars and educators to nurture students into critical thinkers and innovators capable of responding to emerging technologies and global challenges.
“Our students must be encouraged to become innovators and problem-solvers who can effectively respond to the rapidly changing technological landscape,” Prof. M’rithaa said.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Mercy Kanyara, said the conference provided an opportunity for participants to exchange ideas, deepen knowledge and explore innovative solutions on the role of the Fifth Industrial Revolution in promoting sustainable development.
She observed that although technological advancement is transforming the world at an unprecedented pace, the true measure of progress lies in ensuring that innovation serves humanity.
“Technology should not only advance industries and economies but also improve human welfare and promote sustainable development,” Dr. Kanyara noted.
Among the international participants was Sunusi Shuaibu from Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa, Nigeria, who described the conference as both successful and inspiring.
Shuaibu said the forum had provided him with valuable learning opportunities and would enable him to establish collaborations with other scholars from different countries.
The conference reaffirmed Machakos University's growing position as a regional and international hub for research, innovation and academic collaboration, while highlighting the importance of the Fifth Industrial Revolution in addressing contemporary societal challenges and advancing sustainable development.
