Makûeni County Government has interdicted a Nurse working at Mavivye Health Center, Kilome Sub County who on Saturday allegedly turned away a gravid mother forcing her to go seek assistance from a traditional midwife to deliver her baby.

In a letter signed by Dr. Geoffrey N. Muthoka the acting Chief Officer Health Services,  Elizabeth Musenya Kasyoka was interdicted pending finalization of her case which is currently under investigations.

"It has been reported to this office that on Saturday 7th June, 2025, at around 7.30am, a gravid mother visited Mavivye Health Center seeking maternity services and being the covering maternity the said day, you turned them away referring them to Kilungu Sub County Hospital endangering the life of the mother and the unborn. Note that this amounts to gross misconduct and in view of the foregoing, you are hereby interdicted from exercising your durites of your office from the effect of the date of this letter", read part of the letter.

In an earlier interview with the Press, Tabitha Mutuku, the mother-in-law to the expectant mother, Glorious Wanja began experiencing labour pains in the early hours of Saturday.

The family quickly secured a boda boda and rushed her to the local dispensary, arriving at around 6:00 a.m.

Upon arrival, they proceeded to the nurse's residence within the facility to seek help but the nurse refused to attend to them, citing a previous complaint allegedly made by one of Wanja’s relatives.

The nurse is said to have accused the family of reporting her to her superiors for allegedly administering “half doses” of medication.

“She told us she wouldn’t help us because we had reported her. We had no choice but to turn to a local traditional midwife,” said Tabitha.

The mother and baby survived the ordeal by seeking help from a traditional midwife but the incident has sparked outrage in the community and was widely reported in the media sparking immediate attention.

However, While on interdiction the officer will enjoy half salary, full house allowance and medical insurance cover.
