A fresh wave of student unrest has swept through secondary schools across the country, with Loreto Girls High School, Limuru becoming the latest institution to shut down indefinitely following an overnight disturbance by students.
The unrest, which occurred on the night of June 2, has heightened concerns over growing instability in schools just days after a deadly dormitory fire at Utumishi Academy claimed 16 lives.
According to reports, students at the Kiambu County-based school allegedly threatened to burn down the institution over safety concerns, prompting the administration to suspend learning and direct parents and guardians to immediately pick up their children.
In a notice sent to parents, the school said: “Good morning. Due to some pressure, the management has resolved to release the girls. Kindly arrange how they shall get home.”
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident as efforts continue to restore calm and address the concerns raised by students.
