Tanzanian President H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has departed for the Russian Federation on an official State Visit at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, marking a historic diplomatic engagement and the first such visit by a Tanzanian head of state to Russia in more than 50 years, since 1969.
The landmark visit comes at a crucial moment as Tanzania prepares to implement its National Development Vision 2050, a long-term strategy that places strong emphasis on private sector participation as a key driver of economic growth and sustainable development.
During her visit, President Samia is expected to hold high-level bilateral talks with President Putin and other Russian leaders aimed at strengthening cooperation between Tanzania and Russia across several strategic sectors. Discussions will focus on enhancing partnerships in trade, investment, innovation, technology, education, energy, and sustainable development — areas considered vital to improving the livelihoods of Tanzanian citizens.
In addition to diplomatic engagements, President Samia will participate in business and investment forums designed to showcase Tanzania’s vast investment potential, attract strategic investors, and expand market opportunities for Tanzanian products within the Russian market.
Officials say the visit underscores the growing ties between Tanzania and Russia and reflects Tanzania’s broader commitment to advancing national interests through economic diplomacy and strategic international partnerships.
The government hopes the visit will open new avenues for collaboration, strengthen bilateral relations, and deliver tangible economic benefits for the people of Tanzania.
