Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has launched a scathing attack on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accusing him of diminishing his political stature by aligning with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua—whom Mutua described as Kalonzo’s junior in both experience and influence.

Speaking during a Mashinani leadership forum held at a Machakos hotel, Mutua urged Kalonzo to reconsider his political strategy, advising him to work with the government rather than positioning himself in opposition.

Mutua further criticized Kalonzo’s political legacy, stating that he remains the only former vice president whose home region—Ukambani—continues to lag behind in development. He attributed this to what he termed as “misguided political decisions.”

Revealing behind-the-scenes details from the 2022 general election, Mutua disclosed that the Kenya Kwanza coalition was initially hesitant to pick Gachagua as Deputy President.

He claimed Gachagua’s eventual selection was largely influenced by his roots in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.

The forum was attended by Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Ukambani, the Machakos County Assembly Speaker, and members of the public.

It was part of a broader consultation process in preparation for President William Ruto’s planned tour of the region next week.
