Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has launched a sharp attack on Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, accusing her administration of gross financial mismanagement and prioritizing political propaganda over service delivery.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at Light Christian Church in Machakos, Makau, who is eyeing the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2027, questioned the rapid rise of the county’s pending bills under Wavinya’s leadership.

According to the MP, Machakos County inherited pending bills amounting to Ksh2 billion, but the figure has allegedly ballooned to about Ksh7 billion within a few years of the current administration.

“Within just a few years, pending bills have increased by billions. It means you do not care about contractors, you do not care about people’s lives, and you have no business empowering wananchi,” Makau said.

He contrasted Machakos with neighboring Makueni County, which he claimed has cleared all its pending bills.

Makau further accused the county leadership of using public resources to influence artists and musicians to compose songs praising the governor ahead of the 2027 elections.

The legislator alleged that some musicians were invited to meetings in areas including White House and Kinanie, where they were allegedly handed cash incentives and promised more money if they produced favorable songs.

“They are being bribed to sing praises for leaders instead of focusing on the real issues affecting residents,” he claimed.

The outspoken MP argued that the money allegedly used for political mobilization should instead be directed towards development projects and improving public services.

He urged the county government to prioritize infrastructure and healthcare, saying residents would appreciate tangible development more than political campaigns.

“If even a few million shillings were used to improve roads and public facilities, wananchi would appreciate the leadership through the services delivered,” he said.

Makau particularly challenged the county government to improve services at Machakos Level 5 Hospital, calling for better medical care, availability of drugs, proper inpatient services, clean bedding, and dignified treatment of patients.

“When people find medicine in hospitals and quality services being offered, they will say the governor is working,” he added.

The remarks signal an early intensification of political rivalry in Machakos County as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
