Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has accused Mavoko MP Patrick Makau of political double standards, faulting him for allegedly promoting the presidential ambitions of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna despite being elected on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.

Speaking on Saturday during the burial of Ronald Musyoki, father to Prof. Francis Mathooko, at Metuma Primary School in Mutituni/Ngelani Ward, Machakos County, Mwangangi said it was improper for leaders elected under the Wiper party to openly campaign for another presidential candidate while the party already has its own presidential contender.

Without directly naming the Wiper party leader, the Deputy Governor said party members must remain loyal and avoid confusing supporters by appearing to support rival political camps.

Mwangangi claimed some leaders were being influenced after visiting powerful political circles, saying they return to the ground advancing narratives that undermine their own political party.

“Where do you stand politically?” Mwangangi posed, questioning the loyalty of leaders who, despite being elected through Wiper, are now associated with the “Linda Mwananchi” ODM wing linked to Senator Sifuna’s growing national profile.

At the same time, the Deputy Governor challenged aspirants eyeing the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2027 to focus on issue-based politics instead of attacking Governor Wavinya Ndeti personally.

Mwangangi said leaders seeking elective positions should present their development agenda and alternative policies to voters rather than engaging in insults and accusations against current office holders.

“If you want to become governor, tell the people what you will do differently. Present your manifesto and allow voters to decide,” he said.

He defended Governor Wavinya’s leadership, noting that critics should respond with better policy proposals, especially in sectors such as education and development, instead of engaging in constant political attacks.

Patrick Makau has already declared interest in the Machakos gubernatorial race in 2027 and has recently intensified criticism of the county administration, setting the stage for an early political contest in the county.
