Makueni County MP Rose Museo has strongly condemned the deadly clashes witnessed at Kwa Kamari in Mwingi that left at least nine people dead, calling for peaceful coexistence between farming and pastoralist communities.
Speaking in Kiima Kiu/Kalanzo Ward on Friday when she delivered a cheque of Ksh200,000 to the Ngaamba Youth Group, the legislator expressed concern over repeated incidents involving herders grazing livestock on farms belonging to local residents, saying the community had always accommodated pastoralists peacefully.
Museo noted that communities from the region have historically welcomed herders bringing camels and cattle into their areas during dry seasons, even offering them grazing space without conflict.
However, she faulted the destruction of farms by livestock and condemned the alleged retaliatory killings that followed complaints from farmers whose crops had been destroyed.
She described the killing of innocent people, including a two-year-old child reportedly caught up in the violence, as heartbreaking and unacceptable.
The MP said local residents have always practiced responsible livestock keeping by maintaining manageable numbers of animals based on the availability of grazing land, and selling excess livestock when necessary to avoid pressure on resources.
Museo urged neighbouring communities to embrace peace and avoid provoking conflict, insisting that residents of the region do not want war but mutual respect and harmony.
At the same time, the outspoken legislator also launched a political attack on Aden Duale over his recent criticism of Kalonzo Musyoka.
Museo defended the former Vice President, saying Duale was not in the same political league as Kalonzo, whom she described as a seasoned national leader and “champion” in Kenyan politics.
She argued that Kalonzo has a proven record in presidential politics and warned Duale against interfering with the Wiper leader’s political affairs ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to Museo, many Kenyans are rallying behind Kalonzo’s leadership, adding that his political camp remains focused and prepared for the upcoming contest.
