In an effort towards providing holistic treatment for chronic conditions such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension, Makûeni Government on Wednesday launched a Chronic Care Center at Makindu.
The facility, made possible through support from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation Global, is expected to serve more than 2,000 patients.
It adopts an integrated approach to care, offering multiple health services under one roof—a strategy designed to minimize stigma, particularly for individuals living with HIV, while enhancing accessibility to quality healthcare.
Speaking at the commissioning event, Makueni Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili underscored the center’s role in advancing Makueni County’s health goals.
She highlighted the county’s commitment to preventive health, with a special focus on addressing the “triple threat” facing youth: rising HIV infections, teenage pregnancies, and gender-based violence.
The newly opened center is set to be a hub for early diagnosis, treatment, and continuous support, helping to tackle these overlapping challenges effectively.
Laura Boudreau, Chief of Operations at AIDS Healthcare Foundation Global, lauded the county’s adoption of integrated healthcare.
She noted that the shift from fragmented services to a unified care model ensures patients are treated with dignity and without discrimination, while also receiving comprehensive and timely support.
