The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections kicked off Thursday across the Ukambani region, drawing significant voter turnout in various polling stations as party supporters turned up to elect their local representatives.

At Muthini Primary School polling station in Kaiti Constituency, Makueni County, Principal Secretary for Aviation and Aerospace Development, Terresia Mbaika, joined residents in the exercise, commending the high voter turnout and orderly conduct of the process.

Mbaika, who cast her vote at her home polling station, expressed satisfaction with the enthusiasm demonstrated by voters despite their busy schedules. She noted that she had taken time off her official duties to participate in the exercise, underscoring the importance of grassroots leadership in strengthening democratic structures within the party.

She emphasized that UDA’s decision to conduct elections at the polling station level reflects its commitment to structured and inclusive leadership engagement. According to her, the party stands out as one of the few with leadership structures extending to the lowest levels.

The Principal Secretary further highlighted that participation in the elections was voluntary, noting that voters turned up out of their own free will in a democratic environment that allows individuals to support political parties of their choice.

Mbaika also linked the strong support for the ruling party to ongoing development initiatives under the Kenya Kwanza administration. She cited Muthini Primary School as one of the beneficiaries, revealing that the institution is set to receive new infrastructure funded at Ksh50 million.

She encouraged residents to actively participate in the elections and support leaders and parties they believe will drive development and improve livelihoods.

Voters who spoke at the polling station echoed her sentiments, describing the exercise as peaceful and well-organized. One voter expressed satisfaction with the calm atmosphere, noting that the process was smooth and reflective of unity within the party.

Another resident described the election as one of the most orderly he had witnessed, emphasizing that the turnout was voluntary and indicative of the community’s confidence in the party’s leadership and development agenda.

The grassroots elections are expected to play a critical role in shaping UDA’s local leadership structures as the party continues to consolidate its support base ahead of future political contests.
