Members of the Kitui County Assembly have this morning approved the Supplementary Budget II Estimates for the Financial Year 2024/2025, amounting to Kshs. 14,148,976,193.

The approval was made pursuant to Section 131 (1) of the Public Finance Management Act, 2012, in line with Standing Order No. 186 (3).

While tabling the motion on the floor of the House, the Chairperson of the County Budget and Appropriations Committee and MCA Voo/Kyamatu Zacchaeus Syengo said the adjustments aim to align the county's spending plan with the provisions of the County Allocation of Revenue Act (CARA), 2025, and the County Governments Additional Allocations Act (CGAAA), 2025.

Syengo further explained that the supplementary budget seeks to reallocate funds from vote heads with unutilized balances to areas that have experienced shortfalls, primarily due to emerging economic pressures.

The Budget Committee was widely commended by Members for its diligence in ensuring that the county’s financial priorities are realigned to meet pressing needs. MCAs also urged the County Executive to move with speed in implementing the newly approved budget.

In a related development, the Assembly approved a motion to hold additional sittings. The decision, guided by Standing Order No. 27(3)(b), will allow Members more time to consider the Kitui County Supplementary Appropriation II Bill, 2025 (County Assembly Bill No. 1 of 2025).

The move underscores the Assembly's commitment to ensuring fiscal responsibility and timely execution of key development priorities within the county.
