The opposition coalition has sharply criticised several government ministers and senior state officials for what it terms unlawful involvement in campaigns ahead of the November 27 by-elections.
Wiper Party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka on Wenesday accused senior officials—among them Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi—of actively campaigning for ODM candidate Harrison Kombe in the Magarini Constituency by-election. Kalonzo termed the alleged involvement of the two leaders “unconstitutional and an abuse of office”.
He further claimed that government resources were being channelled into the campaigns to sway voters in favour of government-backed candidates, warning that such actions undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
Kalonzo, who was accompanied by former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa and DAP-K Secretary General Cleophas Malala, also alleged that state operatives had attempted to bribe DCP candidate Stanley Kenga to withdraw from the race.
The opposition leaders accused the government of plotting electoral fraud and insisted they would remain vigilant to safeguard the credibility of the upcoming polls.
“We will not allow the will of the people of Magarini to be manipulated,” Kalonzo said, vowing that the coalition would closely monitor the election to prevent any interference.
