The Director of Public Prosecutions has charged the chairman of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea, with allegedly soliciting and receiving a Sh5 million bribe from a businessman.
Kabeabea appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court on Monday, where Prosecutor Wesley Nyamache informed Senior Principal Magistrate Celesa Okore that the ACA board chair unlawfully sought a financial advantage of Sh5,000,000 from businessman Du Zhisheng.
According to the prosecution, the bribe was allegedly demanded in exchange for favourable treatment in a case involving suspected counterfeit motor vehicle spare parts. The court heard that the offence occurred on 11th November 2025, and the DPP approved the charges after reviewing evidence gathered by investigators.
Kabeabea denied the charges and was released on a Sh2 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million. As part of the bail conditions, Magistrate Okore ordered him to deposit his passport and barred him from contacting or interfering with prosecution witnesses to safeguard the integrity of the case.
The matter will be mentioned on 8th December 2025 for further directions.
