United Opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka has claimed that several leaders allied to the government are preparing to join his camp ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at Garashi Shopping Center during a campaign rally for DCP candidate Stanley Kenga ahead of the November 27 Magarini by-election, Kalonzo urged voters to support Kenga, saying a strong opposition would pave the way for a change in government.

“I have been in touch with leaders like Amina Mnyazi, MP of Malindi, who are currently in the broad-based government. They are on their way to our camp because they know we are going to form the government in 2027,” he said.

Kalonzo criticized President William Ruto, stating that his administration has failed Kenyans, increased taxes, and tarnished the country’s reputation internationally. He also accused the President of gender bias, citing the dismissal of local leader Aisha Jumwa from Cabinet.

Accompanying Kalonzo at the rally were DAP party leader Eugine Wamalwa, DCP Secretary General Cleophas Malala, Kirinyaga Women Representative Jane Njeri, and former Lamu Women Representative Shakila Mohamed. Malala accused the Kenya Kwanza government of mismanagement and violence, claiming that voting for the government-backed candidate Harrison Kombe would worsen governance in Magarini.

He said, “It is the Kenya Kwanza government under Ruto that has killed people, stolen land, and is now supporting a candidate who has not served Magarini for the 15 years he has been MP. Vote for Kenga to ensure strong representation.”

Kenga, in his address, urged residents to back him, pledging better performance than his competitor. “The whole country is looking at Magarini. As residents, you should vote for me to send a clear message. I will perform better than my competitor has over the past 15 years,” he said.

The by-election is shaping up as a key battleground, with the opposition rallying support in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
