In a major breakthrough against highway banditry, police have arrested two suspected members of a notorious robbery gang that has been terrorizing motorists along the Eldoret–Malaba highway.

The suspects — identified as William Simiyu and Byron Werunga — were nabbed following a stealth operation mounted by officers from Matete and Webuye Police Stations, bringing to an end days of coordinated surveillance.

According to investigators, the duo is believed to be part of a ruthless syndicate that has been staging late-night ambushes on motorists, leaving many travellers shaken and counting losses.

Acting on intelligence reports, detectives tracked down the suspects before they could launch their next planned attack. During interrogation, the pair led officers to their hideouts along River Nzoia and Nabuyola Village, where police recovered a cache of stolen goods.

Among the recovered items were three 6kg gas cylinders, assorted electronics, and vehicle batteries, all believed to have been stolen from motorists in previous highway attacks.

The two suspects are currently in custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of their arraignment.

Meanwhile, security patrols have been intensified along the Eldoret–Malaba highway, with police vowing to dismantle the remaining network of criminals preying on road users.

Authorities have urged motorists to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies as the crackdown continues.
